The city around the cross
Once upon a sometime in the middle of somewhere a giant cross was planted in the ground. In its base and mighty arms, rooms were provided. Inside these plain shelters was space enough to protect everyone in the whole world from storm, earthquake, and epidemic.
However, most of the residents chose to live outside. They built their own homes. They constructed a vast city with transportation and commerce and entertainment all around the cross until it was lost in a sea of skyscrapers, but the people washed and decorated it. They kept it looking sparkling clean and updated in the most fashionable colors.
Over the centuries, almost everyone came to believe that the city was founded by the Crucified One. The truth had been buried under good works and covered by cheap wallpaper.
